Chris Masters Discusses A Possible WWE Return, OVW, & More

Chris “Masters” Mordetzky spoke with NewsHub for a new interview. Check out the highlights:

On training under Rip Rogers: “Basically when I went to OVW, we started training under Rip Rogers and he was just so old school but in a good way. He just created a great foundation which you could build off of which made it perfect when Lance Storm came around and Rip was let go for whatever reasons and Lance came in and took the foundation that Rip had laid out and he really modernized what we needed to do in this day and age of professional wrestling. It’s not going to be an hour Broadway obviously for the most part. It’s usually more just about time. There were a few Broadway matches done in OVW and they weren’t the greatest matches they really aren’t talking or anything they are just going out there and that’s an accomplishment even if its plausible or decent you can’t ask everyone to go out there and be Shawn Michaels or Bret Hart but it’s just good to have it in your back pocket and say that you’ve done it.”

On the difference between The Adonis and The Masterpiece: “I don’t know how much a difference there is in character but I’ll say this about myself that I’ve been doing this close to a decade and I’m much more well-rounded, much more mature performer, my in-ring work is the best it’s ever been. Basically, I’ve reached my peak I believe within the last few years in terms of in ring ability and what I can do and understanding what can do and you’ll see me essentially The Adonis formerly Chris Masters but you are going to see basically 2015 version of me which is definitely among one of the top workers in the world.”

On his second run with WWE “From 2011 on I made it my goal whether push or no push whatever it was. I was on Superstars and I was given a lot of time then and my goal was just to prove the neigh sayers wrong and be a good in-ring worker and not just a body. To try and give WWE basically make them use me. If they weren’t going to use me, I was going to make them use me. I was going out there every night and used it as fuel. I’m going to be that damn good. I worked my a** off and everything started coming together, I really started getting it and anybody that’s seen my work from 2011 pretty much on will tell you and vouch for that fact. Even CM Punk said in the promo where he was quote unquote shooting, that I’m not the same guy that most people remember at least not from back in my earlier run, now I can go and I can go with anybody it doesn’t matter who it is.”

On if he’ll ever go back to WWE: “It goes back to one of my motto’s in wrestling or sports entertainment whatever you want to call it but never say never. I mean if you’re asking me do I think those opportunities could be available? Considering the context of me being 32 and the experience I have? Then, yeah definitely. I’ve heard a lot of talk from guys about the 30 year old rule in WWE but as far as I’m concerned that is somebody that is not making a smart investment always, there are some exceptions to this rule obviously, like Batista and whatnot but it’s not honestly a smart investment to start training somebody at 30 years old because chances are it takes guys at the very least a year or two to not be ready for TV, let alone 5 years over there to just be something and be half a**ed prepared. I think wrestling wise I have every opportunity available to me in front of me if I want it but now I’m looking at what’s in front of me and I’m not looking at the past with any negativity. My stay with WWE was nothing but positive. I accomplished a persona over there and I worked off and on there for 10 years. Right now though, I’ve got to focus my attention on where I’m at now and we’ve got this new, young, up and coming promotion that Jarrett’s really putting his backing behind and doing everything he can to pump and I think wrestling fans out there want an alternative at least the real hardcore fans.”

Foley: ‘Owens Would Have Forced Me To Be A Better Wrestler!’

Mick Foley posted to his Facebook page yesterday, sharing his praise for Kevin Owens. Foley said that if Owens had been around while he was active, the NXT champion would forced him to become a better wrestler. You can see the full post below:

No matter where I was during the course of my career, I always felt comfortable in knowing that my character was unique and that my matches were going to be different than anyone else’s on the card. I really think that if Kevin Owens had been around while I was in my peak that he would have forced me to become a better wrestler – to increase my limited offensive arsenal, and to step up the cardio to keep up with his faster pace. I appreciate that so many people miss me on their TV sets each week, but I’m not really gone. Kevin Owens is a faster, stronger, more aggressive version of me who you can see each week on WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown.

So does Foley fear Owens? In a way. I’m afraid that when wrestling’s history book is written and the topic of top wrestlers with unorthodox body types is discussed, that my name will no longer be first on the list!

How do you think a match between Cactus Jack in his early 90’s prime or late 90’s Mankind would have turned out? Let’s hear it for another piece of Rob Schamberger art too! Who will you be pulling for in Owens/Cena 3 – the rubber match?

The Rock: ‘Vince McMahon Told Me Not To Blade’, Lots More

The Rock spoke with Esquire for a new interview talking about his film and wrestling careers and more. Check out the highlights:

On the accuracy of Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler: “It’s very accurate. I would do blade jobs. I get a call once from the WWE, saying, ‘Vince [McMahon] would like to see you in Stamford.’ I went to his office and he says, ‘I really think you have a lot of potential, but you’re not ready for the WWE. You should go to Memphis, Tennessee. That’s where I want you to learn the business.’ And as I was leaving, he said, ‘You keep working hard, but don’t go down there and cut your f–king forehead with razor blades, you understand me?’ n the ’60s and ’70s and early ’80s, the trainers would grind you and eventually they would break something—they would break an ankle in ways that it would heal. It was just the way of the business, to ensure that you learned respect for wrestling. It was crazy. My dad [Rocky Johnson, a WWE Hall of Fame grappler] didn’t break anything on me, but he grinded me out every day for months.”

On acting compared to wrestling: “Wrestling is intimate. You can reach out and touch the wrestlers. I don’t get that connection in movies, but the impact is so much greater. You’re able to craft a longer career in movies. In wrestling, there’s a shelf life, and some wrestlers don’t pay attention to the shelf life. Mickey Rourke’s character in The Wrestler—that was my dad, that was my uncles, that was so many members of my family. It was the only thing they knew. And then they would end up wrestling for a hundred bucks, go to autograph signings for two hundred bucks.”

On the origins of “jabroni”: “When I was a kid, it was an inside term that guys would use. When wrestlers wanted to have a private conversation when fans were present, they would start talking carny because they used to wrestle in carnivals. I thought it was so cool. Jabroni was a word that was always used in the derogatory sense. Oh, this jabroni, that jabroni. But the Iron Sheik was famous for saying the word constantly backstage.Jabroni, jabroni, jabroni. Around 1998, I thought, Why can’t I say it on TV? So I started saying it publicly, but the Iron Sheik was known for it.”

On his personal life: “I’ve lived with my longtime girlfriend, Lauren Hashian, going on, like, eight, nine years now. She’s a singer-songwriter. We spend a lot of time with my daughter in Florida, Simone, who’s 13. We do these stories and we talk so much about the business end, the success end, but then Lauren isn’t mentioned and my daughter isn’t mentioned. I always like making sure we find the balance and my home life is in there and Lauren Hashian is in there and my daughter is in there.”
